The French Riviera is a land of many modern artists

Chagall museum in Nice
Chagall museum in Nice
Located in a residential part of Nice called Cimiez, displaying an elegant Belle Epoque architecture, the Chagall museum is a must see for all travellers staying in Nice. This is the only museum completely dedicated to this great artist and good man who spent the last décades of his life in Saint Paul de Vence village, a jewel of the French Riviera, where he is burried.

This quiet and simple building, that looks more like a house than a museum, as Chagall requested, and surrended by mediterranean vegetation, hosts the biblical message canevas, inspired from the Genesis and Exodus.
Those large colorfull paintings full of intensity and humanity, mix the history of the jewish people, with also many references to Christianism and the figure of Jesus, but also elements of Chagall's life, from his russian native village to his Paris and Saint Paul de Vence period.

Despite the suffering of his people, the tragedy of the second world war, the death of his first wife, Chagall remains all the time the painter of love, hapiness, faith in man.

Every time I leave this museum I have a feeling of fullness and inner peace. I believe this is the secret if Art: it makes me happy !

Place Massena in Nice
Place Massena in Nice
With its 300 days of sunshine a year, the french riviera may not be the obvious Christmas destination; however, there is no shortage of festivities. Christmas markets spring up in most towns and villages on the Riviera throughout the month, the perfect setting to enjoy mulled wine or freshly made crepes smothered with chocolate. In Nice, an ice rink opens in Place Massena along with a large Ferris Wheel to enjoy the views over Nice. For New Years Eve several of the coastal towns offer a fireworks display to mark the begining of 2015

Santa Reparata Cathedral in the heart of old Nice

Nice, capital of the french riviera hosts a rich partimony
In the heart of Nice old town, the Cathedral of Saint Reparata is emblematic of Roman Baroque art, with its Latin cross plan, central nave, broad transept and majestic high altar. Reparate is the saint patroness of Nice. As a Christian she was beheaded by the Romans and according to the legend her body was put on a boat that crossed the Mediterranean sea to arrive on the shore of Nice accompanied by angels. This is also why the bay of Nice is worldwide known as the bay of Angels ( just like Los Angeles ! )
Nice old town hosts numerous beautiful baroque style churches. So a guided walking tour in Nice old town is not to be missed !

The Rolling Stones in Villefranche sur Mer

Villefranche sur Mer: a paradise for rock stars
In 1971, cornered by England'inland revenue that was blocking royalties on their songs, the Rolling Stones, completely broke, chose to flee to the South of France. The band would find refuge in Villefranche sur Mer, at villa Nellcote ( sold for 83 millions euros in 2007 ), an ewquisite residence rented by guitarist Keith Richards. Our brits would stay there for six month. Mick made the most of this time under the Alpes-Maritimes sun by working on a tan, brushing up on his french and, parenthetically, marrying Bianca in Saint Tropez. As a photographer who immortalised them said: " the doors of that house were always open", adding, "and it is also true that the Stones never found the keys to lock it up".

Enjoy a day tour passing by Villefranche sur Mer city with Sunshine Riviera Tour and get to know more about all the celebrities who have lived in this lovely spot.

Tourrettes sur Loup village in the countryside of Nice
Tourrettes sur Loup village in the countryside of Nice
Perched on top a rocky outcrop dominating the french riviera Tourrettes sur Loup is a medieval village that has managed to retain its authenticity. It enjoys an ideal position between sea and mountain, some 20km away from Nice and 30km from Cannes.
On this fortified site a wealth of original architecture is laid out a semi circle around its impressive 15th century castle. The secrets of the village are only revealed once you have passed through one of the two gates located at either corner of the main square.
