The Rolling Stones in Villefranche sur Mer

Villefranche sur Mer: a paradise for rock stars
In 1971, cornered by England'inland revenue that was blocking royalties on their songs, the Rolling Stones, completely broke, chose to flee to the South of France. The band would find refuge in Villefranche sur Mer, at villa Nellcote ( sold for 83 millions euros in 2007 ), an ewquisite residence rented by guitarist Keith Richards. Our brits would stay there for six month. Mick made the most of this time under the Alpes-Maritimes sun by working on a tan, brushing up on his french and, parenthetically, marrying Bianca in Saint Tropez. As a photographer who immortalised them said: " the doors of that house were always open", adding, "and it is also true that the Stones never found the keys to lock it up".
